About the Show

Charlie Price has reluctantly inherited his father’s shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. Trying to live up to his father’s legacy and save his family business, Charlie finds inspiration in the form of Lola, a fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos. As they work to turn the factory around, this unlikely pair find that they have more in common than they realized… and discover that when you change your mind, you can change your whole world.

Audition Information

We are open to casting all races, body types, and genders. Individuals must be able to sing the part they are auditioning for as written. We ask that those auditioning be at least 18 years old at the time of auditions, with the exception of those interested in auditioning for the roles of Young Charlie and Young Lola/Simon (please see character breakdown for specifics on the ages of these characters). Please prepare 16-32 bars of an upbeat song from a contemporary musical that best shows off your talents and vocal range. Please avoid singing anything from the show “Kinky Boots” itself. We will be looking for strong vocals, but we will also be looking for your passion. Show us your confidence and make us believe you!

Due to the dance heavy nature of this show, all auditioners will be asked to take part in a short dance combo. The dance combo will be taught onsite. Please bring heels if you own them. It is strongly encouraged that all auditioners perform the dance combo in heels as all cast members will perform a number in heels at least once during the show. **It is required that all individuals auditioning for the role of Lola/Simon and/or an Angel perform the dance combo in heels. We will have some heels provided; however, it is encouraged that you bring your own if you are able as it is not guaranteed that we will have the correct size or style that you prefer. Please avoid heels that are taller than 3

inches and no stiletto, skinny types. It is most important to us that you are able to perform your audition safely! If you have any questions or concerns about this, please do not hesitate to speak with us. We want you to feel comfortable for your audition and are willing to work with you to ensure this.

Individuals may also be asked to read from the script. Those asked to read will be encouraged to read in their best British accent as these will be used throughout the entirety of the show no matter the role.

*In the event of callbacks, we may have the following characters perform these songs. We do not expect these to be perfected or memorized prior to callbacks, we are simply providing them for those that would like to spend extra time preparing. It is also possible that additional songs will be asked for during callbacks as well:

CHARLIE– “Step One,” “Soul of a Man”
LOLA/SIMON– “Land of Lola,” “Hold Me in Your Heart” YOUNG LOLA/SIMON– “The Most Beautiful Thing in the World” LAUREN– “The History of Wrong Guys”
NICOLA– “The Most Beautiful Thing in the World” HARRY/ENSEMBLE– “Take What You Got”
DON– “Raise You Up”

Dance Prep Video

We are excited to welcome Shelley Cooper to the Kinky Boots team as our new choreographer! In order to ensure a smooth audition process, we have prepared a dance audition video that can be reviewed prior to attending auditions. This video will allow auditioners the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the dance combo and work through it at their own pace prior to the onsite audition.

While the dance will be reviewed onsite for clarification, (and will also be taught to those who were unable to view the video beforehand) we strongly encourage all potential auditioners to review the video in advance if able. This will not only facilitate a more comfortable performance during auditions, but also provide an opportunity to better understand the choreography and showcase your skills!

Our aim is to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity and the necessary resources to succeed in their auditions for Kinky Boots. Therefore, we have made the dance audition video available as a valuable tool that will enhance the audition experience and allow for better preparedness. We look forward to seeing you and your talents this weekend at auditions!

Character Breakdown
**Important note: ALL ages are those that the character should appear to be

and is not an age that the actor is required to be at the time of auditions or performances. ALL cast members should also be comfortable with a pop/rock style of singing and a British accent.

CHARLIE PRICE– Male presenting, tenor (with a rock belt), age late-20s to mid-30s. A privileged but likable leading man whose father owns a shoe factory. A bit confused and unfocused, but a hero hiding beneath the surface. Must have a great rock voice, the ability to move, and be a strong actor.

YOUNG CHARLIE– Male presenting, tenor, age 10-15. This is our lead as a young boy. Lost, quiet, and reflective. Appears in the opening and closing scenes with one or two additional scenes in between.

LOLA/SIMON– Male presenting, tenor, early 30s. An emotionally and physically challenging role that requires the attitude of a boxer with the soul of a diva. Must have star presence and feel comfortable in drag and heels. Strong vocals and acting. Generally Black ethnicity is preferred, but BIPOC will also be considered.

YOUNG LOLA/SIMON– Male presenting, tenor, age 10-15. Our leading spitfire as a young boy who already knows that he is destined to wear heels. Appears in the opening and closing scenes with one or two additional scenes in between. Generally Black ethnicity is preferred, but BIPOC will also be considered.

NICOLA– Female presenting, mezzo-soprano with a great pop voice, age 20s-30s. Charlie’s long-term girlfriend. Sophisticated and glamorous, she knows what she wants in life and goes for it. Uncompromising, driven, and a social climber.

LAUREN– Female presenting, mezzo-soprano with a pop belt, age 20s-30s. A beautiful but quirky (not glamorous like Nicola) working class woman that works in the shoe factory. Funny and smart but has bad luck with men. Strong comedic actress.

DON– Male presenting, baritone with the ability to sing up to a D5 in the finale, age 30s-40s. Lola’s nemesis; he is burly, hyper-masculine, and has a large, menacing physicality. Least likely to be seen on a runway.

PAT– Female presenting, mezzo-soprano, age 30s. Officious office manager who will let loose her wild side when given the chance.

TRISH– Female presenting, alto, age 40s-50s. Factory worker who has been there longer than any of the other women. Has a lot of life experience with a husband and kids to worry about which shows on her face. Great comedic timing.

GEORGE– Male presenting, baritone, age 40s-50s. Reserved factory manager that is tightly wound and keeps up with traditions.

THE ANGELS– Male presenting, tenor/varying, age 20s-30s. Drag queens with star quality and personality that perform at the nightclub with Lola. Should be very strong dancers with great vocals. Must be comfortable with walking and dancing in heels and be familiar with the art of drag. Should be able to demonstrate charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent! Show us your FIERCENESS!

MR. PRICE/ENSEMBLE– Male presenting, any, age 40s-50s. Charlie’s father and owner of the shoe factory. Appears in the opening and closing scenes with one or two additional scenes in between. Will play multiple roles in the ensemble for the rest of the show.

HARRY/ENSEMBLE– Male presenting, tenor, age 20s-30s. A friend of Charlie’s, but he is the opposite in personality. Harry is carefree, confident, and successful. Must have a great rock voice. Will also play multiple roles in the ensemble. The ability to play the guitar is preferred but is not a necessity.

ENSEMBLE– Any gender, varying vocal parts, age 20s+. Must be excellent pop/rock singers. Will play multiple ensemble roles including pub patrons, factory workers, etc. Should be able to move well and feel comfortable dancing in boots and/or heels.
