Based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic thriller, Jekyll & Hyde is the gripping tale of a brilliant mind gone horrifically awry, set to a powerful pop-rock score by Frank Wildhorn with book and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse. In an attempt to cure his ailing father’s mental illness by separating “good” from “evil” in the human personality, talented physician Dr. Jekyll inadvertently creates an alternate personality of pure evil, dubbed Mr. Hyde, who wreaks murderous havoc on the city of London. As his fiancée Emma grows increasingly fearful for her betrothed, a lady of the night, Lucy, finds herself dangerously involved with both the doctor and his alter ego. Struggling to control Hyde before he takes over for good, Jekyll must race to find a cure for the demon he has created in his own mind.

Henry Jekyll/Edward Hyde
Vocal Range: up to strong A4
Jekyll is a doctor obsessed with discovering a formula to separate a human’s good side from the evil, in hopes of eliminating evil for all mankind. He is a good, smart man but extremely focused on his work to save his father, hospitalized at St. Jude’s, from the illness of evil. Engaged to Emma Carew. After being spurned by the hospital’s Board of Governors, he uses his formula on himself, and his alter-ego Hyde takes control. Hyde is violent, aggressive, lustful, and out of control. Actor needs to be able to show ability to portray the different extremes physically, in the speaking voice, and in the singing voice. One must not simply choose to sing as Jekyll and shout as Hyde. This is an extremely physically and vocally demanding role.
Vocal Range: G3 to F5
The gorgeous ‘main attraction’ at the local gentleman’s club. At the bottom of her luck, she becomes the object of Hyde’s obsession. Lucy is feisty and strong, but also cautious and aware. Actor needs to be able to have a clear, strong mix with endurance, and move well.
Vocal Range: A3 to C6
Daughter of Chairman Danvers and Jekyll’s beloved fiancé. She is refined and desired by many socialite men. Emma is sweet and devoted to Jekyll, but also strong-willed and passionate. Actor needs to have a strong high soprano voice as well as a clear mix.
Vocal Range: B2 to F4
Serves as Jekyll’s lawyer and best friend. He advises the doctor on personal and professional matters. John is loyal, devoted, and respected.
Sir Danvers Carew
Vocal Range: C3 to F4
Emma’s loving father, Knight of the British Empire, and Chairman of the Board of Governors of St. Jude’s Hospital. A charming and gentle man. He is the only Board member remotely sympathetic to Jekyll’s cause.
Vocal Range: A2 to G4
The secretary of the Board of Governors and Jekyll’s rival for Emma’s affections. Simon and Jekyll have a tense, competitive relationship.
Lady Beaconsfield/ Nellie
Vocal Range: up to G5
Beaconsfield is a member of the Board of Governors in place of her husband who died 20 years ago. She views most of society with contempt and arrogance, frequently mocking those she deems inferior, including Jekyll. Nellie is the head of the gentleman’s club where Lucy works, in charge of the women. Actor needs to have a high operatic voice, and she must be able to portray a rich socialite as well as a lady of the night.
Bishop of Basingstoke
Vocal Range: C3 to G4
Bishop is a hypocritical, lecherous man of the cloth and a member of the Board of Governors. Despite being a high-ranking clergyman, his personal affairs do not follow the chaste rules of the church.
General Lord Glossop
Vocal Range: G3 to G4
A pompous retired military leader and member of the Board of Governors. A formidable, straightforward, ramrod with a cruel mouth.
Sir Archibald Proops
Vocal Range: G3-G4
A member of the Queen’s Council and the Board of Governors. He is quick-witted, methodical, and all business.
Vocal Range: G3-G4
A wealthy socialite and a member of the Board of Governors. He is arrogant, aloof, and has much better things to do than concern himself with Jekyll’s plight.
We would like the ensemble to be a mix of ethnicity, age, body type, and gender. The ensemble will portray a mix of poor citizens and wealthy socialites, and will further the story through song. We seek strong vocalists of all ranges to fill this group; the ability to read music is appreciated, but not required. While dancing is not a central focus of the show, ensemble members must be able to move well.
